Secular trends in infection-related mortality after kidney transplantation
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology May 24, 2018
Kinnunen S, et al. - Researchers assessed the current infection-related mortality among kidney transplant recipients in a nationwide cohort in Finland. Following kidney transplantation in Finland, the risk of death due to infectious causes dropped by one half since the 1990s. The most frequent cause of infection-related mortality was common bacterial infections. Bacterial infections: septicemia in 38% and pulmonary infections in 45% were the main causes of infectious deaths. After kidney transplantation, death was rarely caused by opportunistic viral, fungal, or unconventional bacterial infections.
