Screening tools for targeted comprehensive geriatric assessment in HIV-infected patients 50 years and older
International Journal of STD & AIDS Sep 05, 2019
Sangarlangkarn A, et al. - Researchers assessed tools that may assist in the identification of aging people living with HIV (PLWH) who may forego comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA). In this cross-sectional study involving 357 PLWH ≥ 50 years old, the evaluated tools used included the Veterans Aging Cohort Study Index (VACSI) and G-8, which is predictive among older patients with cancer. Eight tests comprised CGA: history of fall within 12 months, timed-up-and-go test, activities of daily living (ADL), instrumental ADL, Montreal cognitive assessment, Thai depression scale, mini nutritional assessment, and HIV symptom index. Abnormal results comprised ≥ 2 impaired domains on CGA. As per outcomes, patients with VACSI < 17 and G-8 > 15.5 showed low likelihood of abnormal cognition, mood, nutrition, or symptom burden, due to which these patients may forego CGA.
