Safety of same day discharge for minimally invasive hysterectomy for endometrial cancer

Praiss AM, et al. - Using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database, researchers evaluated women with endometrial cancer who underwent minimally invasive hysterectomy for the trends and outcomes of same-day discharge. They identified a total of 17,935 patients who underwent minimally invasive hysterectomy were identified. Of those discharged within 1 day, discharge on postoperative day 0 was reported for 1,828 (12.4%) and discharge on postoperative day 1 or after, was reported for 12,892 (87.6%). Observations revealed an increase in same-day discharge for minimally invasive hysterectomy for endometrial cancer. They noted no increased risk of readmission in selected patients with same day discharge.
