The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Mar 04, 2018
Lee S, et al. - Researchers compared mortality and healthcare utilization among Emergency Department (ED) mental health and substance abuse (MHSA) patients by ED discharge disposition and inpatient bed request status. Outcomes revealed a greater risk for return visits to the ED for MHSA patients who were discharged from ED after bed requests were placed. Thereby suggesting a necessity for outpatient planning for these patients to prevent further avoidable healthcare utilization.
