Safety and efficacy of using 2.4/2.4mm and 2.0/2.4mm dual mini-fragment plate combinations for fixation of displaced diaphyseal clavicle fractures

Chen MJ, et al. - By performing this retrospective case series, researchers intended to assess the safety as well as the efficacy of utilizing lower profile 2.4/2.4 mm and 2.0/2.4 mm dual mini-fragment plate constructs for fixation of diaphyseal clavicle fractures. From a single level-one trauma center, they analyzed all displaced diaphyseal clavicle fractures managed with 2.4/2.4 and 2.0/2.4 dual mini-fragment plate constructs. They focused on postoperative complications and fracture healing rates. They found that healing occurred in all 36 identified fractures, without loss of reduction or implant failure. One superficial infection occurred and there were no deep infections. No case of wound dehiscence was reported. According to the findings, a lower profile construct that was created by dual mini-fragment plating of diaphyseal clavicle fractures, using 2.4/2.4 mm and 2.0/2.4 mm plate combinations, was found reliable in maintaining fracture reduction to healing and had a low rate of reoperation for symptomatic implant removal.
