Roles and mechanisms of leptin in osteogenic stimulation in cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament

Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Jul 07, 2018

Feng B, et al. - Experts identified the association between the serum leptin and bone metabolic markers and how the leptin-induced osteogenic effect in cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (C-OPLL). As per data, a significant increase in mRNA expressions of alkaline phosphatase activity (ALP) and osteocalcin (OCN) and formation of mineralized nodule was led by leptin treatment. In C-OPLL cells, the osteogenic effect of leptin could be mediated via extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)1/2, p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), and/or c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathways.
