Role of the pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in the survival of primary parotid cancer patients
Cancer Management and Research Mar 28, 2019
Cheng G, et al. - A total of 249 candidates were studied to estimate the ability of pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) to predict survival in patients with parotid cancer. They reported a mean NLR of 2.48, with a range from 1.5 to 6.1; intraparotid node metastasis in 18.1% of cases. They found a significant association of NLR with tumor stage, disease stage, and disease grade. They recorded a 10 -year disease-specific survival (DSS) rate of 62%; 73 patients died due to the disease. They found a 10 -year DSS rate of 68% and 58% in the cases with an NLR<2.48 and an NLR≥2.48, respectively, with a significant difference. They observed the NLR as an independent prognostic factor for DSS in the Cox model analysis.
