Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy vs standard laparoscopic radical prostatectomy: An evidence-based analysis of comparative outcomes
World Journal of Urology Apr 15, 2021
Carbonara U, Srinath M, Crocerossa F, et al. - This study was sought to provide a systematic analysis of the comparative outcomes of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) vs laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) in the treatment of prostate cancer based on the best currently available evidence. Using MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases, researchers conducted an independent systematic review of the literature up to February 2021. They obtained demographics and clinical characteristics, surgical, pathological, and functional outcomes. The research identified 26 studies. The outcomes of this study exhibit that compared with LRP, RARP offers favorable outcomes, including higher potency and continence rates, and less likelihood of biochemical recurrence. The results demonstrate that an evaluation of longer-term outcomes is lacking, and higher cost remains a concern of robotic vs laparoscopic prostate cancer surgery.
