Risk of respiratory depression with opioids and concomitant gabapentinoids

Savelloni J, et al. - Researchers here sought to assess the risk of respiratory depression due to the combination of opioids and gabapentinoids requiring naloxone administration. Findings revealed no marked association of respiratory depression in the gabapentinoid group vs the non-gabapentinoid group. In the gabapentinoid group, an increased risk of respiratory depression was evident, particularly in patients who had surgery within the previous 24 hours.
