Risk of infection in type 1 and type 2 diabetes compared with the general population: A matched cohort study

Carey IM, et al. - Here, the physicians described the burden of infections in adults with diabetes within a large national population cohort. In addition, they compared infection rates between patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T1DM and T2DM). Findings revealed that 6% of infection-related hospitalizations and 12% of infection-related deaths were due to diabetes. As per the outcomes, people with diabetes (especially T1DM) were at increased risk of serious infection, representing an important population burden.
