Revision joint arthroplasty and renal transplant: A matched control cohort study
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 26, 2019
Labaran LA, Amin R, Bolarinwa SA, et al. - In this matched control cohort study, researchers examined postoperative outcomes and mortality following revision hip and knee arthroplasty in renal transplant recipients (RTRs) compared with non-RTRs and described common indications and types of revision procedures among RTRs. Participants in the study were 1,020 RTRs who had revision joint arthroplasty (359 revision total knee arthroplasty [TKA] and 661 revision total hip arthroplasty) from 2005 to 2014. A significant association was found between renal transplantation and increased the length of stay, septicemia, and 1-year mortality following revision TKA. When compared with nontransplant recipients, prior renal transplantation among revision joint arthroplasty patients was linked to increased morbidity and mortality.
