Restoration of normal pelvic balance from surgical reduction in high-grade spondylolisthesis
European Spine Journal Apr 22, 2019
Alzakri A, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, 60 individuals were assessed to analyze the efficacy of surgical reduction in high-grade spondylolisthesis in the maintenance or restoration of a normal pelvic balance, as related to the QoL. Better improvement in QoL was recorded in subjects with a postoperative balanced pelvis. They also found that 57% of cases in the postoperative high-grade (PHG) group and 81% in the postoperative low-grade (PLG) group with a preoperative balanced pelvis maintained a balanced pelvis postoperatively. Improvement from an unbalanced to a balanced pelvis postoperatively was reported in 55% of subjects in the PLG group and no cases in PHG group. In maintaining and restoring a normal pelvic balance postoperatively, surgical reduction in high- to low-grade slip was more effective.
