Residual inflammatory risk and the impact on clinical outcomes in patients after percutaneous coronary interventions
European Heart Journal Nov 01, 2018
Kalkman DN, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers investigated the prevalence of and prognostic impact of high residual inflammatory risk (RIR) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary artery intervention (PCI) between 2009 and 2016 with serial inflammatory status assessment from a large, prospective, and single-center PCI registry. For these subjects, inflammation status was evaluated with at least two high sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) measurements at baseline and follow-up, with >4 weeks apart. In patients undergoing PCI, persistent high RIR was frequently detected. Findings of 1-year follow-up in these subjects revealed significantly higher all-cause mortality and myocardial infarction rates. In patients undergoing PCI, assessment of residual inflammatory risk and further exploration of treatment options was recommended.
