Reproducibility of gastric emptying assessed with scintigraphy in patients with upper GI symptoms
Neurogastroenterology & Motility May 08, 2018
Desai A, et al. - Authors scrutinized the intra and inter-individual reproducibility of gastric emptying (GE) measured with scintigraphy in patients with upper gastrointestinal symptoms. Patients (21 diabetics, 39 non-diabetics) with upper gastrointestinal symptoms underwent scintigraphic assessment of GE of a solid meal (296 kcal, 30% fat) over 4 hours on 2 occasions at an average interval of 15 days. It was determined that GE measured with scintigraphy was relatively reproducible among patients with upper gastrointestinal symptoms. In 30% of cases, the interpretation appeared to be different between the 2 assessments. Therefore, it was deduced that a diagnosis of gastroparesis based on a single study could occasionally be inaccurate.
