Relationships among clinic, home, and ambulatory blood pressures with small vessel disease of the brain and functional status in older people with hypertension
American Heart Journal Aug 16, 2018
White WB, et al. - In older persons, researchers used cross-sectional data to assess the correlations of clinic and out-of-office blood pressures (BP) with white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and functional status. They analyzed data from 199 older study participants enrolled in the INFINITY trial and found that ambulatory BP measurements vs home BP measurements in older people were more strongly related to WMH and certain measures of functional status. Therefore, they concluded that, for the evaluation of subcortical small vessel disease and its consequences, home BP may not be a beneficial substitute for ambulatory BP.
