Relationship between vascular endothelial growth factor and macular edema in retinal vein branch obstruction
Clinical Ophthalmology Aug 13, 2018
Okawada H, et al. - Authors gauged the association between vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and protein concentration in the aqueous humor (flare) in retinal vein branch obstruction (BRVO) and, if this could be used to monitor treatment-related VEGF changes in 19 previously untreated patients with BRVO. Findings suggested an effectiveness of flare for estimating VEGF levels in aqueous humor pre-IVR. They noted a probable relationship between recurrence and inflammation-related molecules other than VEGF. Results did not demonstrate any improvement in central retinal thickness in a patient with recurrence, even though VEGF decreased.
