Relation of subclinical hypothyroidism is associated with cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in adults with high cardiovascular risk

The American Journal of Cardiology May 22, 2018

Moon S, et al. - Researchers studied the link between subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) and cardiovascular (CVD) events, and mortality, using the atherosclerotic CVD risk (ASCVD) risk score in this observational study. Participants were aged ≥ 40 years at baseline from the Ansung cohort of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study, and followed up for 12 years. With a cutoff age of 65 years or 7.5% of the 10-year ASCVD risk score, subgroup analysis was carried out. They found an association of high TSH levels with an increased risk of mortality and new CVD risks. This association was specifically seen among subjects with high CVD risk.
