Reasons for (non)participation in supplemental population-based MRI breast screening for women with extremely dense breasts
Clinical Radiology May 18, 2018
de Lange SV, et al. - Authors attempted to ascertain how willing of women with extremely dense breasts were to have breast cancer screening via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a research setting and to investigate reasons why they would or would not participate. According to the findings obtained, 59% of women with extremely dense breasts participated in supplemental MRI screening. Data reported that “MRI-related inconveniences and/or self-reported contraindications to MRI” and “anxiety regarding the result of supplemental screening” were the most common reasons for non-participation. They suggested that addressing anxiety could improve participation in supplemental screening.
