Readmissions after endoscopic skull base surgery: Associated risk factors and prevention
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology Oct 15, 2019
Vengerovich G, Wan K, Antoury L, et al. - In this retrospective chart review involving 833 individuals, researchers examined endoscopic skull base procedures conducted at the institution over a 10-year period to recognise rates and factors correlated with readmissions following endoscopic skull base surgery. According to findings, hyponatremia; cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak; epistaxis; diabetes insipidus; rhinorrhea; as well as other reasons were the most common reasons for readmissions. The only statistically significant variable linked to an increased risk for readmission following surgery was the presence of intraoperative CSF leak. Findings suggested no association of other tumor and patient variables with an increased risk of readmission within 30 days.
