Re-hospitalisations for complications and mortality following pacemaker implantation: A retrospective cohort study in an older population
Clinical Cardiology Oct 11, 2018
Gillam MH, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, researchers used the Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs database to assess subsequent re-hospitalizations for infections, procedure-related complications, thromboembolism, cardiovascular events (CVE; heart failure, myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation), and re-operation of pacemaker, as well as mortality in older patients who received a pacemaker from 2005 to 2014. They found that, within 90 days post-discharge, 1% to 2% of patients sought re-hospitalizations for infection, procedure-related complications, or thromboembolism. They also noted that 10% of single- and 7% of dual-chamber recipients experienced re-hospitalization for a CVE.
