Rapid increase in the prevalence of cannabis use among persons with depression in the US, 2005-2017: The role of differentially changing risk perceptions

Addiction Dec 11, 2019

Pacek LR, et al. - Using logistic regression with survey year as the predictor, linear time trends of the predominance of cannabis use and risk perceptions of cannabis use from 2005-2017 among 728,691 US persons aged ≥ 12 years with and without depression. Among persons with and without depression, the predominance of cannabis use in the US rose from 2005 to 2017 and it was nearly two-fold as prevalent among those with depression. Moreover, individuals with depression encountered a more accelerated reduction in the understanding of the risk, which could be associated with more prompt progress in any and daily past-month cannabis use in this group.
