Rapid dispatch for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is associated with improved survival
Resuscitation Apr 01, 2021
Gnesin F, Møller AL, Mills EHA, et al. - As a proxy for initiation of the first link in the Chain of Survival by the dispatcher, researchers herein examined how the time to first dispatch affect 30-day survival among patients with OHCA ultimately receiving the highest-level emergency medical response. Data on all OHCA unwitnessed by emergency medical services (EMS) treated by Copenhagen EMS from 2016 through 2018 were linked to corresponding emergency call records. A total of 3,548 patients with OHCA were included, 94.1% of whom received the highest priority response (median time to dispatch 0.84 min, 25th–75th percentile 0.58–1.24 min). Observations overall revealed a higher probability of 30-day survival following OHCA in significant correlation with rapid time to dispatch among patients with highest priority response.
