Racial disparities in bladder management in veterans with spinal cord injury and disorders
Neurourology and Urodynamics Feb 28, 2019
Morin JP, et al. - Researchers reviewed data from 833 cases to analyze the specific demographic, neurologic, and urologic factors linked to various bladder management methods (BMMs) in people with spinal cord injury and disorders (SCI/D) involving 52.1% Caucasians and 39.6% African Americans. They noticed an association of current age, years since the injury, the severity of functional impairment, nonmedical mechanism of injury, and Caucasian race with raised rates of indwelling catheter use in bivariate analysis. They recorded African-American race, an independent risk factor for not applying indwelling catheters in an analysis of propensity-matched racial groups.
