Prospective observational study of point-of-care ultrasound for diagnosing pneumonia

Archives of Diseases in Childhood Jun 13, 2018

Lissaman C, et al. - In this prospective observational cohort study, the researchers tested the diagnostic accuracy of lung ultrasound for pneumonia using chest radiograph (CR) as the reference standard. This investigation in a Paediatric Emergency Department recruited children aged 1 month to <18 years, who had a CR ordered for possible pneumonia. The findings from the present study suggested that lung ultrasound might have a role as first-line imaging in patients with possible pneumonia, with higher specificity for consolidations exceeding 1 cm.
