Prospective comparison among three intrarectal anesthetic treatments combined with periprostatic nerve block during transrectal ultrasonography-guided prostate biopsy
World Journal of Urology Feb 10, 2018
Valdez-Flores RA, et al. - In patients undergoing transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy, the efficacy and safety of three intrarectal local anesthesia (IRLA) combined with periprostatic nerve block (PPNB) was examined by the authors. When applied in combination with PPNB, intrarectal application of prilocaine/lidocaine (EMLA) cream was more effective in reducing pain than either 2% lidocaine gel or 100 mg indomethacin suppository. For the patients undergoing TRUS-guided prostate biopsy, this combination served as an effective option for pain relief.
