Prognostic value of cartilage intermediate layer protein 1 in chronic heart failure

ESC Heart Failure Jan 05, 2022

Wang C, Jian W, Luo Q, et al. - In chronic heart failure (HF) patients, circulating cartilage intermediate layer protein 1 (CILP-1) level has been identified as a novel independent prognostic predictor.

  • According to emerging evidence, CILP-1 is linked with myocardial remodeling.

  • In this prospective cohort study, there were 210 patients with chronic HF and left ventricular ejection fraction <50%.

  • An independent association of higher CILP-1 levels with a higher risk of mortality was found post-adjusting for potential confounding factors, in multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analysis.

  • A significantly higher mortality rate was observed in patients with CILP-1 levels above the median vs those with CILP-1 levels below the median, in Kaplan–Meier analysis.

  • CILP-1 was shown to significantly enhance prognostic prediction over N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide by an increment in net reclassification improvement and a trend towards an increase in integrated discrimination improvement.
