Prognostic value of admission electrocardiographic findings in non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
Clinical Cardiology Mar 12, 2020
Chen PF, Tang L, Pei JY, et al. - Given transient ST-segment elevation, ST-segment depression (STD), T-wave inversion (TWI), and no ischemic changes (NIC) are included as admission electrocardiographic (ECG) findings of non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), researchers examined the Acute Coronary Syndrome Quality Improvement in Kerala (ACS QUIK) study post hoc, to evaluate the prognostic significance of qualitative ECG findings at presentation as well as to clarify the impact of invasive treatment on the prognostic worth of admission ECG findings. Findings revealed a link between STD and adverse outcomes, as well as a connection between TWI and benign prognoses. It was recommended that NIC should not be taken to indicate low risk. For the rapid risk stratification of NSTMI patients at presentation, the suitability of qualitative analysis of admission ECG was shown. However, it may not enable the prediction of short-term results of NSTEMI patients following invasive management.
