Prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in Africa: A systematic review and meta-analysis

In this systematic review and random meta-analysis, experts explored studies measured serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) concentrations prevalence and incorporated 1,692 studies with 129 studies of 21,474 people from 23 African countries in order to evaluate the predominance of vitamin D deficiency in infants and grown-ups living in Africa. They found that in African communities, the high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was noted. However, public health approaches in Africa shall involve attempts to prevent, discover, and treat vitamin D deficiency, particularly in newborn babies, women, and urban populations.
