Prevalence of heart failure and diagnostic value of MR-proANP in outpatients with type 2 diabetes
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Nov 23, 2018
Jensen J, et al. - In outpatients followed in two specialized diabetes clinics, researchers identified the prevalence of heart failure (HF) and assessed the diagnostic value of mid-regional pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (MR-proANP). HF was pre-defined as HF with reduced (HFrEF) and preserved (HFpEF) ejection fraction. Findings revealed that the HFrEF and HFpEF prevalence was 2.4% and 17.5% respectively. The results obtained from the study indicate that HFrEF was rare in outpatients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM), MR-proANP excludes HFrEF and provides independent information on the diagnosis of HF in patients reporting dyspnea.
