Prevalence of defective restorations and factors associated with re-intervention in primary teeth: A retrospective university-based study
International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry Mar 15, 2019
de Avila NM, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers assessed the prevalence of inadequate rehabilitation in public dental services and the factors associated with re-intervention in primary teeth among 302 restorations placed in 114 children. When the restoration received no treatment (monitored), refurbishing, sealing of margins or was repaired, the outcome "Success" was set. Whereas they set "Failure" when the restoration was either replaced or in case when different treatment affecting the restoration was required (endodontic treatment or tooth extraction). They observed frequent restorations with recurrent caries in caries-active cases which were frequently replaced. They suggested restoration replacement in maximum cases due to re-intervention decision influenced by the presence of recurrent caries.
