International Journal of Nephrology and Renovascular Disease Mar 08, 2021
Alemu B, Techane T, Dinegde NG, et al. - Researchers sought to estimate the prevalence of anemia as well as its related factors in chronic kidney disease patients at selected public hospitals of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in this institutional-based cross-sectional analysis. Participants were 387 patients in total. Across all stages of CKD, overall prevalence of anemia was estimated to be 53.5%. From the stage of CKD, a higher (90.9%) anemia prevalence was exhibited by stage 5 CKD vs others, and a higher frequency of anemia was seen in women vs men. Thus, experts recommend the development of situation-based interventions as well as country context-specific preventive strategies in order to decrease anemia prevalence in this patient population.
