Prevalence estimates for pemphigus in the united states: A sex- and age-adjusted population analysis

JAMA Mar 27, 2019

Wertenteil S, et al. - Data were estimated to assess the prevalence of pemphigus (a bullous disease in which autoantibodies disrupt intercellular keratinocyte adhesion) in the United States. Clinically, loss of epidermal integrity transposed to flaccid blisters and erosions of skin and mucous membranes as well. They noted the association of pemphigus with significant morbidity and mortality. However, they noticed a decline in the life-threatening course of pemphigus due to treatment with systemic corticosteroids.
