Dental Traumatology Jun 04, 2019
Qudeimat MA, et al. - For this screening study, researchers invited all amateur soccer players who were registered in the 14 sports clubs in the country to participate in order to assess the prevalence, type and causes of soccer-related traumatic dental injuries among them. Among 667 (48% inclusion rate) male players who were included (mean age of 13.4 ± 2.6 years), 169 (25%) players reported 213 injured teeth. Soccer-related injuries were prevalent in 11%, and older players exhibitted a greater number of injuries indicating that a significant number of young Kuwaiti amateur soccer players experience traumatic dental injuries. The most frequently injured teeth were maxillary central incisors (91%), and 60% of all injured teeth comprised enamel-only fractures. Soft-tissue injuries were prevalent in 18%. Furthermore, dental care for the injuries was not reported in a high percentage of traumatic injuries.
