Prevalence and risk factors of drug-resistant extrapulmonary tuberculosis
The Clinical Respiratory Journal Feb 15, 2018
Boonsarngsuk V, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers sought to determine the prevalence and risk factors of drug-resistant (DR)-extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB). Among patients who had concomitant pulmonary tuberculosis, a high prevalence of DR-EPTB was reported. In isolated EPTB, low prevalences of rifampicin- and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis were noted while the prevalence of isoniazid-resistant tuberculosis remained high. Hence, performing drug susceptibility testing in EPTB patients, especially in those who carry the aforementioned risk factors, was recommended.
