Sexually Transmitted Diseases Apr 25, 2018
Price CM, et al. - In view of Trichomonas vaginalis to be a sexually transmitted infection associated with increased transmission of HIV and significant adverse birth outcomes, researchers compared T. vaginalis detection between polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and culture. They also investigated how PCR cycle threshold (Ct) values differ among culture results. The culture-negative cases showed significantly higher Ct values, suggesting a lower concentration of T. vaginalis DNA. For predicting culture positivity, a Ct value of 30 provides a reliable threshold.
