Preseason hip/groin strength and HAGOS scores are associated with subsequent injury in professional male soccer players
Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy Sep 26, 2019
Bourne MN, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is an association between preseason assessments of isometric hip adductor and abductor strength using a novel field-test and the Copenhagen Hip and Groin Outcome Score (HAGOS), and subsequent hip/groin injury in professional male soccer players. A total of 204 elite male soccer players from ten professional Hyundai A-League and English Championship League clubs had hip adductor and abductor strength assessments and completed the HAGOS in the 2017-18 preseason. Using principal component analysis, data reduction was conducted. During the 2017-18 season, 24 players suffered at least one hip/groin injury. According to findings, hip abduction imbalance, favouring the preferred kicking limb, higher levels of hip adductor and abductor strength, and superior HAGOS values, were linked to a decreased probability of future hip/groin injury in professional soccer players.
