Preoperative N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide for prediction of acute kidney injury after noncardiac surgery
European Journal of Anaesthesiology May 20, 2021
Zhao BC, Zhuang PP, Lei SH, et al. - This retrospective cohort study was conducted to determine the predictive role of preoperative N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) on postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI). Participants were adult patients who underwent a serum creatinine and NT-proBNP assessment within 30 preoperative days and at least one serum creatinine measurement within 7 days following noncardiac surgery between February 2008 and May 2018. Following adjustment for clinical variables, AKI was shown to be independently predicted by preoperative NT-proBNP. In a cohort of patients receiving noncardiac surgery, preoperative NT-proBNP levels conferred predictive information for AKI, independent of as well as incremental to traditional risk factors.
