Prehospital naloxone and emergency department adverse events: A dose-dependent relationship

The Journal of Emergency Medicine Sep 24, 2020

Maloney LM, Alptunaer T, Coleman G, et al. - Researchers examined prehospital and emergency department (ED) interventions and outcomes of patients who were administered prehospital naloxone for a suspected opioid overdose. They conducted a retrospective, observational chart review of 513 patients who received prehospital naloxone and were transported by ambulance to a suburban academic tertiary care center between 2014 and 2017. As per outcomes, there was a significant association of an increasing number of prehospital naloxone doses with an increased likelihood of an ED adverse event.
