Pregnancy-related events associated with subclinical cardiovascular disease burden in late midlife: SWAN
Atherosclerosis Aug 04, 2019
Cortésa YI, Catovb JM, Brooks M, et al. - Among 964 parous women from the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation (SWAN), researchers focused on how reproductive factors and subclinical CVD burden are related in late midlife women. They found greater carotid IMT in relation to the history of gestational hypertension/preeclampsia. A link was identified between earlier age at first birth and subclinical CVD, but this association did not persist when accounting for CVD risk factors. Overall, pregnancy history was identified as a crucial marker of subclinical CVD in late midlife and could influence the vasculature through distinct pathways.
