Predictors of long-term Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation score stability following septoplasty with inferior turbinate reduction

The Laryngoscope Jun 17, 2021

Law RH, Bazzi TD, Van Harn M, et al. - In this retrospective case series, experts aspired to explore whether mean Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) scores at 1 month postoperatively were similar to NOSE scores at ≥ 6 months postoperatively, as well as to determine if educational level and occupation, as surrogates of socioeconomic status, influenced postoperative NOSE scores and their stability over time. Patients who underwent septoplasty with inferior turbinate reduction for nasal obstruction due to septal deviation and inferior turbinate hypertrophy were included. There were 98 patients in total, with 56 of them being men (57.1%). Patients had statistically and clinically significant reductions in NOSE scores at 1 month, with no clinically significant differences in NOSE scores at ≥ 6 months, implying NOSE score stability between these postoperative time points. NOSE scores were unaffected by education or occupation.
