Predictors of elbow torque among professional baseball pitchers
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Dec 15, 2019
Lizzio VA, Gulledge CM, Smith DG, et al. - Professional baseball pitchers were enrolled for participation in order to ascertain the impact of pitch type, velocity, and player features on medial elbow torque in professional baseball pitchers. Twelve professional baseball pitchers were involved. Among the pitch types, compared with those in curveballs, medial elbow torque was notably greater in fastballs. An increased BMI value was independently related to reduced elbow torque in pitchers. Therefore, fastballs vs curveballs, place significantly greater torque on the medial elbow, which is constant with former studies accomplished on high school and collegiate populations. Moreover, across the medial elbow, pitchers with a higher BMI encounter notably less torque.
