Predictors of dental care utilization in north-central Appalachia in the USA
Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology Apr 21, 2019
Chen M, et al. - Data from the Center for Oral Health Research in Appalachia (COHRA1) study in north-central Appalachia, including 449 families and 868 adults, were analyzed to evaluate the relations between a variety of biopsychosocial factors and dental utilization. They observed a correlation between having dental insurance and greater dental utilization over a 3-year time period on average across West Virginia and Pennsylvania. In north-central Appalachia, they suggested that state residency, gender, insurance, income, fatalistic beliefs, health values, and perspectives of dental care-related anxiety and fear predicted dental care utilization.
