Predictors for tooth loss in periodontitis patients: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Clinical Periodontology May 02, 2019
Helal O, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers evaluated the consistency and magnitude of any association between a total of twelve predictors and tooth loss. For longitudinal studies investigating the association between predictors and tooth loss in periodontitis patients, Medline/Embase/Central were searched. Data reported that the mean annual tooth loss/patient was 0.13. Investigators found that older patients, non-compliant ones, diabetics, IL-1-polymorphism patients and smokers had a significantly higher risk of tooth loss. In addition, teeth with bone loss, high probing-pocket depth, mobility and molars, particularly with furcation involvement exhibited higher risks. There was no significant association between gender and endodontic affection with tooth loss.
