Predictive factors and amputation level for reamputation in patients with diabetic foot: A retrospective case-control study
The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery Jun 24, 2021
Seçkin MF, Özcan C, Çamur S, et al. - The rate and level of reamputation were determined in patients who had a previous amputation from diabetic foot. Performing a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent amputation and reamputation due to diabetic foot, reearchers evaluated 59 patients as the healed group after the first amputation and 55 as the reamputation group. Among 55 patients undergoing reamputation: there were 13 finger or ray, 23 transmetatarsal (TMM) or Syme, 18 transtibial, and 1 transfemoral in the first operation. The reamputation rate of 65.4% was recorded in distal amputations. Overall findings suggest higher rate of reamputation in distal level amputations for diabetic foot patients. Accordingly, the following were identified as risk factors for reamputation among patients: albumin values, smoking, hypertension, duration of diabetes, number of debridements after surgery.
