Prediction of postoperative mortality in elderly patient with hip fractures: A single-centre, retrospective cohort study

Niessen R, et al. - Considering the utility of predicting postoperative outcome in clinical decision making for elderly patients undergoing hip fracture (HF) surgery, researchers sought a reliable score to predict postoperative mortality after HF surgery in this sub-population. They performed a single-centre retrospective cohort study in 782 patients who were operated on for HF. As per findings, age, gender, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and C-reactive protein values measured at admission are not suitable parameters for predicting postoperative, intra-hospital mortality in these elderly.
