Pre-existing patellofemoral disease does not affect 10-year survivorship in fixed bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy Oct 08, 2018
Lim JWA, et al. - In patients with significant radiographic evidence of patellofemoral joint arthritis treated with fixed bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, authors evaluated the 10-year functional outcome and survivorship. They prospectively followed up on 216 patients (263 knees) that had UKA from 2003 to 2005 for a mean of 10.5 ± 2.1 years. Long-term implant survival did not seem to be affected by the significant preoperative radiological patellofemoral disease and excellent functional outcomes were seen in patients 10 years postoperatively. Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty should not be contraindicated in these patients.
