Post-treatment/pre-operative PET response is not an independent predictor of outcomes for patients with gastric and GEJ adenocarcinoma

Annals of Surgery Apr 18, 2018

Hernandez JM, et al. - Researchers investigated if changes in positron emission tomography (PET) avidity correlated with histologic response and were independently associated with outcome among patients with gastric and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) adenocarcinoma. They noted histopathologic staging to be the best predictor of outcome following completion of neoadjuvant therapy for gastric and GEJ adenocarcinoma. Observations suggest a limited value of repeat post-treatment/preoperative PET imaging for the purpose of prognostication.
