Post burn pruritus in pediatric burn patients

Burns Mar 22, 2018

Nieuwendijk SMP, et al. - In a pediatric setting, the incidence and severity of post-burn pruritus were ascertained. Researchers also searched for predictors for pruritus and evaluated pharmacological treatments. They noted that more than two-thirds of the patients had itch at any point in time after the burn. In 83.5% of the patients, the itch was mild. Predictors for pruritus included time since burn, depth, TBSA and skin grafts. Complete symptom relief was observed only in 29.8%, even with anti-itch medication.
