Poor survival of dialysis patients with unhealed wounds because of critical limb ischemia: Limb salvage and survival requires wound healing

International Wound Journal Jul 25, 2019

Yoshikawa H, et al. - In this investigation, researchers identified the optimal treatment, including revascularization and amputation, from the wound healing perspective by analyzing the survival of hemodialysis patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) who had healed or unhealed lower extremity wounds. Participants in the study were 52 patients who received maintenance dialysis at the clinic, including 27 with healed CLI wounds and 25 with unhealed CLI wounds. According to findings, the 3-year survival rate proposed that hemodialysis patients with unhealed CLI wounds have a significantly lower prognosis compared to healed wounds. An unhealed wound in hemodialysis patients with CLI is an independent risk factor for mortality.
