Plasmacytoid variant urothelial carcinoma of the bladder: Effect of radical cystectomy and chemotherapy in non-metastatic and metastatic patients

World Journal of Urology Feb 01, 2022

Focusing on plasmacytoid (PCV) bladder cancer patients, researchers herein investigated how radical cystectomy (RC) and chemotherapy affect non-metastatic (T 2–4N0–3M0), as well as metastatic (TanyNanyM1) subgroups.

  • A total of 332 PCV patients with muscle-invasive disease or higher (≥ T2N0M0) were identified by used the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database (2000–2016).

  • In non-metastatic PCV patients, lower cancer-specific mortality (CSM) was recorded in correlation with receiving RC, however, no effect of chemotherapy was evident.

  • Conversely, metastatic PCV patients had statistically significantly lower CSM in correlation with both chemotherapy and RC.
